November 10, 2008.

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 06-29 dated October 16, 2006 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

91 Phonebook entries can't be imported from cell phone

Condition

Incomplete or failed download of the cell phonebook, even though the cell phone is correctly bonded with the Bluetooth telephone preparation module.

Technical Background

A function was introduced in MY 2007, that provide the option from where to import phone book entries (SIM card, Telephone memory or ALL). Before MY 2007, the phone book entries were imported from the internal Telephone memory (CDMA) or the internal Telephone memory and the SIM card (GSM).

If SIM is selected in the SETUP TELEPHONE/MEMORY SETTINGS - Menu and a CDMA cell phone is bonded to the vehicle, no entries will be imported.

CDMA cell phones do not have a SIM card.

The same happens with a GSM cell phone, when all of the entries are stored in its internal memory and not on the SIM card.

Production Solution

not applicable

Service

1. Verify that the customer's cell phone is compatible with the vehicle (minimum firmware and model year) and able to download the phone book.

2. Verify, if phone numbers are actually stored in the internal telephone memory or the SIM card as applicable.

3. Check, which option is selected in Memory used. Select SIM, Telephone or all, as desired and wait until download of phone book entries is complete. This can take several minutes, depending on the number of entries.
