Mirror - Insufficient Door Mirror Heating

December 2, 2008.

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 64 number 07-05 dated June 11, 2007 for reasons listed below.

Affected vehicles

66 Door mirror heating insufficient

Condition

Insufficient door mirror heating after engine start.

Technical Background

This condition may be the result of:

A wrong diagnosis in both front door control modules (low voltage recognition at engine start)

In this case, the door mirror heating does not switch to the start mode of the heating control, but instead causes:

- 100% heating performance for 2 minutes, then jumping straight to the pulse change modular control.

- 5% heating performance depending on outside temperature and road speed velocity (km/h).

As a result, the heating of both front door mirrors is significantly delayed.

Improper use of the door mirror heating system

- When starting the engine, the mirror adjustment switch must be in the central (heating) position. After that, the mirror adjustment switch can be moved to a different position without affecting the heating control. After switching off the engine, the mirror adjustment switch must again be moved to the central position to activate the heating control.

- The door mirrors are only heated if the outside temperature is below 18 degrees C.

Production Solution

New software in the 4L0910793B Control Module (J386) (driver-side door module) resolved the problem.

New software in the 4L0910793B Control Module (J387) (passenger-side door module) resolved the problem.

Service

Update the 4L0910793B driver-side control module and the 4L0910793B passenger-side control module using the SVM action code as listed in the table below. Both modules are updated and coded during the same test plan.

Tip: The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim.
