AFFECTED VEHICLES
CONDITION
Fuel door does not open or does not close.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Centering pin sticks in its guide, or fuel door positioning motor actuator rod sticks in its guide sleeve and does not return.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
The centering pin length is reduced by 7mm, and the fuel door positioning motor actuator rod is lengthened 4mm.
SERVICE
1. If the fuel door will not open, operate the release button while a second person presses and pulls the fuel door.
2. Shorten the centering pin by 7mm.
3. If the fuel door will not close, replace the fuel door positioning motor and rod assembly with the improved version 4L0 810 773D. Lubricate the rod pin with lubricant G 000 450 02. (See Figure 2.)
4. Make certain that the emergency release cable is correctly routed and doesn't interfere with normal operation.
