Campaign - Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement

Vehicles Affected

Condition

Vehicle must meet ALL of the following criteria.

1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the IP code in the OTIS View Campaign inquiry screen on the day of repair.

2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.

3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.

Procedure must also be performed on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.

This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle.

This Technical Bulletin is in effect for 15 months from date of publication as listed above. After that date, this Technical Service Bulletin will expire and no longer be in effect.





Possible DTC's or MIL light on with Bank 2 Cam position (CMP) sensor 2 - G163 and Cam position (CMP) sensor 4 - G301 DTC's shown in address word 01.

DTC's that are found in the ECM fault memory that are not listed above should be addressed separately and DTC erasing and readiness code setting cannot be claimed under this action.

Technical Background

During the engine starting phase electrical current near the engine wiring harness can create electrical interference to the Bank 2 Cam position sensors G163 and G301. The electrical interference only effects Bank 2 Cam position sensors G163 and G301.

Production Solution

Electrical filter installed in Bank2 Cam position sensors G163 and G301.

Service

- Remove air guide hose between Bank 2 air filter housing and throttle body for access to G301 Cam position sensor.

- Replace Bank 2 Cam position sensors G163 and G301 (refer to ElsaWeb for repair instructions).

- Lubricate Cam position sensors 0-rings with engine oil.

- Insert Cam position sensors into the ladder frame hole until 0-ring makes contact with the ladder frame, push sensor into hole while rotating slightly until seated.

- Torque sensors bolts to 9 Nm.

- Clean any residual oil from Bank 2 cylinder head area.

- Check and clear ECM DTC's that are related to the Bank 2 Cam position sensors.
