Components in Passenger Compartment
• The various vents of the instrument panel are described. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Vents and Air Ducts ] Instrument Panel Vents and Air Ducts.
• The following figures show an instrument panel as installed in a sedan or Avant up to VIN "399999" of model year 2005. The form of the instrument panel in a Cabrio, sedan, or Avant starting with VIN "400000 " of model year 2005 (in the Sedan and Avant) and "012913" of model year 2005 (Cabrio).
1 - Left vent temperature sensor (G150) 1)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Left Vent Temperature Sensor ] A/C System Control and Regulation Components.
2 - Diagnostic socket
• Perform A/C system on board diagnostic.
3 - Instrument cluster
• With the instrument cluster control module (J285 ) and outside air temperature display (G106)2)
• The outside air temperature output by the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head is displayed for example in vehicles with an automatic transmission only with a gear engaged
• Check the temperature sensor measured values if the temperature display is malfunctioning. Refer to => [ Temperature Sensor Temperature-Dependent Resistance Values ] Climatronic Control Module A/C Control Head Electrical Test
• The measured value of the outside air temperature sensor (G17) is evaluated by the instrument cluster control module (J285) and transmitted via the comfort data bus system to the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "guided fault finding" function
4 - Accelerator mechanism
• The kick-down deactivation of the A/C compressor regulator valve (N280) is performed via the respective engine control module. Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "guided fault finding" function
5 - Left temperature flap motor (V158) 2)
• With left temperature flap potentiometer/actuator (G220) 1)
• Lever color identification: Red (yellow in vehicles with steering on the right)

6 - Auxiliary air heater heating element (Z35) 2)
• Not Applicable for USA.
7 - Heat exchanger for heater unit
8 - Left footwell vent temperature sensor (G261) 1)

9 - Right footwell vent temperature sensor (G262) 1)

10 - A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255)
• Different versions

• The interior temperature sensor fan (V42) and the instrument panel interior temperature sensor (G56) are integrated in the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head.

• The buttons and display fields are illuminated by light emitting diodes (LED), cannot be replaced
• Depending on the date of manufacture, the A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) has also been designated as A/C Control Head (E87) in various sources of repair information (e.g. in wiring diagrams for vehicles up to model year 2004).
11 - Interior temperature sensor fan (V42) 2)
• Installed in A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255), cannot be replaced individually
12 - Instrument panel interior temperature sensor (G56)
• Installed in the Climatronic control module (J255 ) A/C control head, cannot be replaced individually
13 - Defroster vent
• For front windshield

• Different versions in vehicles up to VIN "399999" of model year 2005 (Sedan and Avant) or "012912" of model year 2005 (Cabrio) and starting with VIN "400000" of model year 2005 (Sedan and Avant) or "012913" of model year 2005 (Cabrio). 15 - Fresh air intake duct temperature sensor (G89) 1)

16 - Recirculation flap motor ( V113) 2)
• With Recirculation Door Motor Position Sensor ( G143)
• Lever color identification: Blue (light blue with additional pins for operating the fresh air flap in vehicles with steering on the right)

• In vehicles with steering on the right also operates the fresh air flaps (no back pressure flap motor (V71) installed)
17 - Back pressure flap motor ( V71) 2)
• In vehicles with steering on the left, this engine operates the fresh air and back pressure flaps
• Only installed in vehicles with steering on the left
• No back pressure flap is installed in a vehicle with steering on the right. The fresh air flaps are operated by the recirculation flap motor (V113) (no back pressure control is provided).
• With back pressure flap motor position sensor ( G113) 1)
• Color identification of the cam plate: Light blue

18 - Right vent temperature sensor (G151) 1)

19 - Fresh air blower control module (J126) and fresh air blower (V2) 2)

• The fresh air blower control module (J126) is installed in the fresh air blower (V2) and cannot be replaced separately.
20 - Air guide connection for cooling the glove compartment
• A sealing plug is installed in vehicles without cooling of the glove compartment (figure).

21 - Evaporator vent temperature sensor (G263) 1)

• If the evaporator vent temperature sensor (G263) is not correctly installed in the air flow of the A/C unit, the evaporator can ice up.
22 - Central air flap motor ( V70) 2)
• With central flap motor position sensor (G112) 1)
• Color identification of the cam plate: White (black in vehicles with steering on the right)

23 - Defroster flap motor (V107 ) 2)
• With defroster flap motor position sensor (G135 ) 1)
• Lever color identification: Dark green (light green in vehicles with steering on the right)

24 - Right temperature flap motor (V159) 2)
• With right temperature flap potentiometer/actuator (G221) 1)
• Lever color identification: Violet (brown in vehicles with steering on the right)

25 - Condensation drain
