Hollow Shaft

The removal and installation of 1st, 2nd and reverse gear selector gears is described in transmission disassembling and assembling. Refer to => [ Transmission ] Transmission.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pressure plate (VW 401)

Pressure plate (VW 402)

Punch (VW 412)

Tube (VW 415 A)

Thrust piece (3118)

Separating tool (Kukko 17/2)

Feeler gauge

Pressing off 5th gear, gear wheel





- Press 5th gear drive gear together with roller bearing and 2nd gear selector gear inner race/needle bearing off of hollow shaft.

6th gear selector gear, pressing off





A Separating device 22 to 115 mm, e.g. (Kukko 17/2)

6th gear drive gear, pressing on





Installation position:

High inner collar faces 5th gear.

Thrust piece (3118) shoulder faces toward 6th gear drive gear.

Pressing on 5th gear, gear wheel





Installation position:

High inner collar faces 6th gear.

Hollow shaft roller bearing, pressing on





Thrust piece (3118) shoulder faces toward roller bearing.

If you have replaced the transmission housing, gear set, hollow shaft or gears on hollow shaft, you must now redetermine the shim " S6" for positioning 2nd gear selector gear. Inner race/needle bearing for 2nd gear selector gear, pressing on





- Place shim "S6" - A - on roller bearing beforehand.

- Then press on 2nd gear selector gear inner race/needle bearing - B -.
