Restrictor
Restrictor
• Up to model year 2001 yellow restrictors were installed (diameter of the bore/constriction 1.54 mm). Starting with model year 2002 red restrictors are installed (diameter of the bore/constriction 1.42 mm). The change in the restrictor in this vehicle does not result in a change in the fill quantity for refrigerant R134a.
Removing
- Drain refrigerant circuit.
- Disconnect refrigerant line at threaded connection - A - (seal open connections).
- Pull restrictor - B - out of the refrigerant line using needle nose pliers.
Installing
• Only install restrictors of the same type; restrictors with different colors have different bore diameters.
- Install restrictor - B - accurate to side (arrow on restrictor faces evaporator).
• The restrictor must sit in the refrigerant line without play
- Check O-ring seal - C - (7.5 mm; 1.5 mm) for correct seating in the groove.
- Replace O-ring seal - D -
- Check the type of seal at the connections and the refrigerant lines. These must be designed for the same type of seal. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Line to Component Connections ] Refrigerant Circuit, Servicing .
- Coat the O-ring seal of the restrictor lightly with refrigerant oil before installation.
- Install refrigerant pipes such that they are not strained.
- Tighten threaded connection - A - to 15 Nm.
• Check position of refrigerant pipes after tightening union. Pipes must not make contact with other components.
- Evacuate and re-charge refrigerant circuit.
