Transmission
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Socket (T40058)

Removing
The automatic transmission 09E is removed downward together with the engine and then separated from the engine.
CAUTION!
• If transmission is not set down correctly, components can be damaged.
• Do not set the transmission on the ATF cooler - B - or on the transmission oil pan.
• Reinstall cable ties that were loosened or cut off during removal at same locations during installation.
Installing
The following test steps must also be performed.
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Transmission Installation Tightening Specifications ] 09EA Transmission
- Route and secure transmission ventilation hose according to the illustration.

• Press the clip in and secure the ventilation hose with a cable tie
5 Clamp
6 Vent Valve
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.
• When installing, bring all heat shields and sleeves back to same positions.
• When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.
- Make sure the alignment sleeves - A - for centering the engine and transmission are installed in the cylinder block. Install them if necessary.
Torque Converter Bushing
- Check if bushing - arrow - is inserted at back of crankshaft. If not, it must be driven in.
- Before putting engine and transmission together, rotate engine torque converter and drive plate so that holes or threaded holes are at the same height as opening on removed starter - arrows -.
- Install the transmission on the engine.
- Insert the (T40058) guide pins as follows:
• The small diameter - arrow - faces the engine.
• The larger diameter - arrow 2 - faces the adapter.
- Counterhold the crankshaft using the (T40058) to tighten the torque converter bolts.
• When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation - arrow -.
- Always use new original bolts to secure the torque converter to the drive plate.
- Install the six bolts - arrows - for the torque converter into the opening in the starter hand-tight (turn the crankshaft 1/3 turn each time).
- Tighten the bolts for the torque converter to the tightening specification (turn the crankshaft 1/3 turn each time).
- Attach the ATF cooler to the cooling hoses. Refer to => [ Transmission Cooling System Overview, Audi S6 ] Description and Operation.
- Install transmission support, transmission mount and tunnel crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember, Transmission Mount and Transmission Support Overview ] Tunnel Crossmember, Transmission Mount and Transmission Support Overview.
- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Procedures.
- Check axle oil level in transmission. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling after Repair ] Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling after Repair.
- Check the ATF level. Refer to => [ ATF Level, Checking ] ATF Level, Checking.
• If the transmission was replaced:
- Perform a transmission adaptation. Refer to => [ Transmission Adaptation, MY 2006 ] 09EA Transmission.
