Selector Mechanism Function Unit
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pry lever (80 - 200)
Removing
- Move the selector lever into D.
- With the ignition switched off, disconnect the battery ground (GND) cable.
- Remove the handle on the selector lever. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.
- Remove the front ashtray.
- Remove the trim on the center console.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the protective cover - 2 -.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 1 - from the circuit board.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 3 - for the shift lock solenoid (N110).
• The electrical connector - 3 - also has a protective cover.
- To disconnect cover from shift mechanism function unit, carefully release retaining tabs - arrows - one after another.
- Pull the cover slightly upward until cover guides - 1 - are outside of openings - 2 -.
- Then swivel the rear of the cover towards the top, in the direction of the - arrow -, while simultaneously pulling it over the cross brace of the center console - 3 -.
- Remove shield from lever/selector shaft.
- Remove the selector lever cable ball socket - 1 - from the selector shaft lever - 3 - using the (80 - 200)
- Unclip lock washer - 2 - on the shift select lever cable bracket and remove shift select lever cable.
- Pry manual release Bowden cable - 1 - out of the bracket - 2 -.
- Loosen nuts - 3 - about one turn.
- Remove the bolts - 4 -.
- Carefully pull selector mechanism function unit up and out of shift unit.
- At the same time, guide the manual release actuator mechanism - A - and the selector lever cable - B - out of the cover.
• If necessary, unclip the selector lever cable sleeve from the cover.
- Loosen the selector lever cable locking screw - arrow - with a 25 mm Torx(R) socket.
- Remove the securing plate - C - for the selector lever cable from the selector mechanism function unit.
- Remove the shift mechanism function unit. Remove the selector lever cable at the same time without bending it.
Installing
Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:
Tightening specifications for bolts and nuts, and whether bolts and nuts are to be replaced, refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Function Unit, Manual Release Overview ] Selector Mechanism Function Unit, Manual Release Overview.
• Shift selector lever and selector shaft lever are in position D.
- Guide the shift selector lever cable - B - into shift mechanism function unit and in the hole for the selector lever cable locking screw - arrow -.
- Install the selector lever cable to the selector mechanism function unit securing plate - C -.
• Installed position: The angled end of the securing plate faces up.
- If necessary, attach shift lever cable sleeve - B - on the bearing housing shift mechanism function unit.
- Make sure the rubber sleeve for the selector lever cable is properly attached to selector mechanism shift unit and that it seals properly.
- Carefully guide shift mechanism function unit into selector mechanism shift unit, noting manual release actuator - A -.
• The Bowden cable must be routed under the right mounting bracket - D -.
- Guide the cover over the shift selector - 4 - and simultaneously to the front area under the cross brace for the center console - 3 -.
- Then swivel the cover downward and to the rear - arrow direction -.
- Insert cover guides - 1 - into openings - 2 -.
- Then press the cover until the retaining tabs - arrow - clip in.
- Insert the shift selector cable into the bracket/transmission and carefully press down on the lever/selector shaft. Do not bend the selector shaft lever when doing this, otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.
- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting ] Procedures.
- Install ashtray and center console cover panel.
- Connect the battery ground (GND) cable.
