Rear Suspension



Subframe with Attachments (FWD)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

^ Torque Wrench V.A.G 1332
^ Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A

Subframe with components, removing

- Remove wheels.
- Remove coil springs.
- Remove exhaust system rear muffler.
- Disconnect and unclip the wires from the ABS speed sensor and connectors on vehicles with automatic headlamp range control.





- Remove bolt -arrow-.





- Pry off securing clip -1- for the brake cable.
- Press brake lever -2- in direction of -arrow- and unhook parking brake cable -3-.





- Remove bolt -1- and remove parking brake cable -2- from bracket of brake cable.





- Disconnect brake lines, items -1- and -2-.





- Mark installation position of mounting bracket on body.
- Remove bolts -arrows-.

CAUTION
Before LOOSENING subframe bolts, secure vehicle against tipping over (e.g. load luggage compartment with approximately 50 kg).






- Place engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with universal transmission support V.A.G 1359/2 below subframe and secure with strap.





- Remove hex bolts -1- and -2-.

Note:
^ For the sake of a better illustration, only the left side of the vehicle is shown.

- Carefully lower subframe with components.

Note:
^ When lowering, ensure there is enough clearance between the brake lines, electrical lines and centering pints to driveshaft.

Subframe with components, installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

- The center of the subframe holes must be aligned to the bolting points on the body.

Part I - Subframe, Lower and Upper Transverse Links, Tie Rod and Level Control System Sensor with Automatic Headlamp Range Control Tightening Specifications

Part II - Wheel Bearing Housing, Wheel Bearing Unit and Trailing Arm with Mounting Bracket Tightening Specifications

Part III - Shock Absorber and Coil Spring Tightening Specifications

Part IV - Stabilizer Bar Tightening Specifications

- Bleed brake system
- Perform vehicle alignment.

Checking and aligning front/rear axle must take place on a VW/Audi recommended alignment stand.
