Navigation System - Route Guidance Inaccurate
91 08 812017474/2
November 7, 2008.
Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 08-11 dated April 10, 2008 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
91 Navigation plus (RNS-E): Route guidance inaccurate
Condition
Route guidance from the navigation system does not match the route being driven.
- Generally, the spoken route guidance or instructions in the Driver Information Display (DIS) are announced too late.
- The position of the vehicle on the map is not correct and quickly changes after the vehicle makes a turn.
Technical Background
The tire circumference stored in the navigation unit is incorrect.
Production Solution
Corrected adaptation values.
Service
1. Compare the actual value in adaptation channel 1 (Figure 1, green) with the learned value (Figure 1, red). The values should be similar.
2. If the two values differ by more than 500, adapt channel 1 again. The adaptation value is listed in the tire table in Elsa-Web (A6-4B only) or Guided Fault Finding.
3. After correcting the adaptation value, press and hold the on/off button on the navigation unit for 20 - 40 seconds until unit re-boots. A reset is necessary for the new adaptation value to be stored.
If this doesn't work, reset the navigation unit by removing the fuse for approximately 60 seconds.
