November 6, 2008.

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 97 number 07-10 dated July 23, 2007 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

91 External audio source no sound - iPod/CD Changer

Condition

The external CD changer (R41) or iPod (R192) are fully functional but have no sound.

Technical Background

The audio bridge may be missing in vehicles that did not come with a factory installed satellite tuner (R146) or in a car where SDARS was installed but subsequently removed and the loopback not replaced. Without this bridge, the audio signal from the CD changer (R41) or iPod adapter (R192) will not reach the radio for sound output.

Figure 2 shows the location of the satellite tuner on the 2008 TT wiring harness.

Please refer to the Repair Manual for the location of the satellite tuner on the wiring harness of older TTs, A4s, Cabrios and A3s.

Production Solution

Not applicable.

Service

If there is no satellite tuner installed in the vehicle, visually inspect to see if the audio bridge is properly installed on the wiring harness in place of the satellite tuner.

1. Gain access to the wiring harness. See the Repair Manual for model-specific instructions.

2. If the audio bridge is found missing, order one flat contact housing connector and the wires, listed below, and loop the proper wires in the connector as follows:

a. Pin 3 to 6

b. Pin 4 to 7

c. Pin 5 to 8

Tip:

To avoid making a new audio bridge, a connector from another vehicle can be used.
