Vehicle Information

Condition

This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:

The roof channel trim on either side of the Open Sky Roof is loose. Typically the trim is lifting in the rear.

In some cases, the trim is lifted high enough that it comes in contact with the rear lid when the rear lid is opened.

The trim can then be forced forward, causing damage to the trim, rear lid, etc.

This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect for 15 months from date of publication. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.

Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:

1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the CD code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.

2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.

3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.

4. Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.

Technical Background

Too few roof channel mounting clips.

Production Solution

Additional clips to be added to the molding.

Service

1. Before repair it is important that the vehicle and any replacement parts be at room temperature (approximately 20 degrees Celsius or 68 degrees Fahrenheit). Bring the vehicle into the workshop to warm if necessary.

Even if only one side is detached, make certain to repair both moldings. Inspect for any consequential damage. If any damage is found, this is to be repaired at the time this repair is performed. If any consequential damage is found, please contact the Campaign Helpline. If the roof channel moldings are undamaged, they will be reused.

2. Carefully detach the molding from the clips by starting from the rear of the molding with a plastic hobby tool with the liftgate open. Detach just the first clip on each side.

3. Close the liftgate

4. Detach the remaining black clip and the first white clip from the molding. This will provide room for the molding to be lifted to clean the surfaces for the new clips.

5. In this modification, 2 additional black clips (8P4 853 573) will be added to the rear portion of the molding for a total of 4 black clips. With the molding lifted, check for loose clips where the adhesive pad is not secure.

6. Remove any loose clips, clean away the residual adhesive pad, and replace the clips as necessary. White clip part number is 8P4 853 573 A if needed.

7. The body surfaces in the channel must be cleared of old tape and cleaned with D 009 401 04 Cleaning Solution.

8. After the surfaces are cleaned, wipe the contact surface inside the channel as well as the contact surface of the clip with 3M Automotive Adhesion Promoter (product number 06396 - available from 3M via your local 3M representative).

9. The 4 black clips should be evenly spaced such that all 4 are adhered to the lip on the rear lid roof panel. Peel off the foil from each clip and apply the moldings.

10. Check the rubber seals on each side of the moldings, ensuring they are correctly seated. Allow vehicle to remain indoors at the room temperature specified for an additional 30 minutes.
