RVU - Software Update for Telephone Control Unit (CA)
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:
^ The Bluetooth phone system (hands-free phone feature) will not function.
^ Engine may not start due to low battery voltage.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect for 15 months from date of publication. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the CA code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
4. Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
In Audi vehicles manufactured within a limited period and equipped with Bluetooth phone preparation, it is possible that the contents of the Bluetooth electronic control unit can be damaged when certain types of mobile phones are used. If this happens, it will not be possible to use the Bluetooth phone preparation.
Additionally, the Telephone Control Unit (R36), Address word 77 Telephone, may not go into sleep mode, which may drain the vehicle battery.
Production Solution
New Telephone Control Unit (R36) software resolves the problem.
Service
1. Check software part number and software version of Telephone Control Unit (R36).
2. Flash the Telephone Control Unit (R36) using SVM action code as listed in the following table.
^ If software level is 0350 or higher, no update is necessary. See Warranty table.
3. If flash process stops partway or does not finish, repeat SVM flash. If flash cannot be completed, please call the Technical Assistance Center.
Tip:
Only the telephone control unit is flashed as part of this RVU. Updates of any other control units cannot be charged under this RVU.
Tip:
The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim.
For further SVM update instructions and troubleshooting, please refer to the SVM Operating Manual or ElsaWeb TSB 2011732.
