Transmission Control Module



Transmission Control Module - 01J, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

Note:
^ Observe general repair notes.
^ Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions.

Removing

- Remove end cover.





- Remove bolts - arrows - and pull out Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 without tilting it.
- Remove twin lip oil seal - A - from Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217.

Note:
^ When positioning Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217, ensure sensor on control module is not damaged.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Note:
^ Replace gaskets and O-rings.





- If necessary, clean sensors - A -, - C - and - D - of contamination and metal shavings.
- Clean selector shaft.





- Before installing the automatic transmission control module, coat J217 new O-rings - A - on the hydraulic control module with ATF.





- Install Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 without canting it.

^ Harness connectors - A -, - B - and - C - on rear side of control module must engage on hydraulic control module.





- Tighten bolts - arrows -.
- Install end cover.

Tightening Specifications





After connecting the Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217, perform the following work:

^ Complete coding for new Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217.
^ Perform adaptation for Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217.

Use Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B for this.

CAUTION!
If the Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 was replaced, check the following points before driving the vehicle to prevent damage to the transmission:

^ Check the vehicles repair history to see if the transmission input shaft was changed from 6 lining discs to 7 lining discs Input Shaft, Servicing With 6 Lining Discs.
^ If this is the case, using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B, see if the Transmission control unit (TCM) J217 program must be updated.
^ If update programming is needed but not carried out, transmission components will be damaged.
^ If update programming is not needed but carried out, transmission components will be damaged.


Check whether update programming in Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 must be carried out:

^ Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing, and Information System VAS 5051B connected to the vehicle.

- Vehicle-specific access to Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing, and Information System VAS 5051B in "Guided Fault Finding".
- Using Sprung button, select "Complaint registration" function in test plan and find following selection:





Note:
^ Through this process in Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing, and Information System VAS 5051B update programming is only carried out for Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 when necessary.

- If necessary, carry out update programming in Transmission Control Module J217.
