Backrest and Seat Pan, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required







- Torque wrench V.A.G 1331







- Engine and transmission holder VAS 6095







- Fixture for seat repair VAS 6136







1 - Bolt (24 Nm)
- Replace with locking compound
- Locking compound Parts Catalog

2 - Bolt (4 Nm)
3 - Seat fore/aft adjustment handle
- Disengaging actuating link for seat fore/aft adjustment

4 - Bolt (24 Nm)
- Replace with locking compound
- Locking compound Parts Catalog

5 - Seat pan

Removing
- Remove seat.
- Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.
- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.
- Remove side trim on sill side.
- Remove side trim on tunnel side.
- Remove control module.

Through 04.06:
- Disconnect relay sockets from metal retain.

From 05.06:
- Drill out the pop rivets using a 4.0 mm diameter drill and remove the retaining plate for the relay sockets and wiring harness.
- Disconnect seat heater connector.

Procedure for all vehicles:
- Disconnect pneumatic hose.
- Expose electrical cables.
- Disengage the seat forward/back adjustment actuating from the release lever.
- Remove bolts - 1 -, - 4 - and - 11 -
- Remove bolts - 6 - and - 8 - and set backrest aside behind seat pan.
- Remove seat pan.

Installing
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
- Insert bolts with locking compound; locking compound Parts Catalog.

6 - Bolt (20 Nm)
- Replace with locking compound
- Locking compound Parts Catalog

7 - Backrest

Removing
- Remove seat.
- Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.
- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.
- Remove side trim on sill side.
- Remove side trim on tunnel side.
- Remove control module.
- Disconnect relay sockets from metal retainer.
- Disconnect pneumatic hose.
- Expose electrical cables.
- Remove the seat forward/back adjustment handle - 3 - by removing the bolt - 2 -.
- Disengage the seat forward/back adjustment actuating from the release lever.

From 05.06:
- Disengage the seat rail release lever.

Procedure for all vehicles:
- Remove bolts - 1 -, - 4 - and - 11 -
- Remove seat pan - 5 -.
- Remove the bolts - 6 - and - 8 -.
- Remove backrest and guide electrical wiring harness out of seat frame.

Installing
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
- Insert bolts with locking compound; locking compound Parts Catalog.

8 - Bolt (20 Nm)
- Replace with locking compound
- Locking compound Parts Catalog

9 - Pneumatic hose
- For lids for backrest bolster inflation adjustment

10 - Electrical wiring harness
11 - Bolt (24 Nm)
- Replace with locking compound
- Locking compound Parts Catalog

12 - Seat frame







Through 04.06: remove the relay socket and disconnect the connectors and pneumatic hose

- Disconnect relay sockets - 5 - and - 6 - from metal retainer to outside.
- Disconnect electrical harness connectors - 1 - and - 2 - from retaining base at metal retainer, press release button to do so.
- Disconnect electrical connectors - 1 - and - 2 -.
- Remove bolt - 4 - and remove guide.
- Cut all cable ties and move electrical wiring free.
- Disconnect pneumatic hose - 3 - at connecting piece - arrow -.







From 05.06: drill out the pop rivet and disconnect the connector and pneumatic hose

- Drill out the pop rivet - arrows - using a 4.0 mm drill and remove the relay socket and wiring harness retaining plate - 1 -.
- Disconnect the seat heater electrical connector - 2 -.
- Cut all the cable ties and free up the electrical wiring.
- Disconnect the pneumatic hose - 3 - at the connecting piece - 4 -.







Disengaging actuating link for seat fore/aft adjustment

- Remove handle for seat fore/aft adjustment.
- Press cable sleeve in - direction of arrow A - out of bracket.
- Disengage actuating link - 1 - for seat fore/aft adjustment from release lever - arrow B -.
