Rear Suspension






Shock Absorber

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Spring Compressor (V.A.G 1752/1)

Adapter (V.A.G 1752/9)

Spring Holder A4, Rear Axle (V.A.G 1752/16)

Torque Wrench ( V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Removing

On vehicles with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC II), empty the system. Refer to => [ Dynamic Ride Control, Emptying and Filling ] Service and Repair.

- Dismount tire.

- Remove coil spring. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Service and Repair.

- Remove nut - 1 - and remove bolts (Illustration without cover plate).





- Remove bolts - 2 -.

Wheel housing liner remains installed.

- Remove shock absorber.

Installing

Replace the bolts and self-locking nuts. Notes in exploded view diagrams. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing, Steel ] AWD.

- Tighten bolts - 2.





Pay attention to the location of the lower mounting => [ Shock absorber location ] FWD.

- Bonded rubber bushings have a limited torsional range. Only tighten threaded connections at control arms if vehicle is in curb weight position. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Rear Suspension.

- Tighten connection - 1 .

- Install coil spring. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Service and Repair.

On vehicles with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC II), fill the system. Refer to => [ Dynamic Ride Control, Emptying and Filling ] Service and Repair.

- Mount wheel and tighten.
