Conventional Clutch
• Refer to notes. Refer to => [ Clutch Repair Information ] Procedures.
• To work on clutch, you must remove transmission. Refer to => [ Transmission, 4-Cylinder, Removing ] or => [ Transmission, 6-Cylinder, Removing ] Transmission, 6-Cylinder, Removing.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Retainer (3067)
• Centering Mandrel (3176)
• Counter Hold Tool (10 - 201)
• Grease for Clutch Disc Shaft Splines (G 000 100 )
Centering Clutch Plate and Removing and Installing Pressure Plate
- Loosen or tighten the bolts in small steps diagonally.
- Change from Flywheel Retainer (3067) to Counter Hold Tool (10 - 201) for removing.
Clutch plate installation location: Spring pack (coil springs) or marking "Getriebeseite" must face pressure plate and transmission.
- Install the bolts only when the pressure plate contact surface and clutch plate lining make full contact with flywheel.
Checking Ends of the Diaphragm Spring
• Wear up to half the thickness of the diaphragm spring is permitted.
• When repairing, always allocate the clutch pressure plate and clutch disc using the engine code.
Checking Spring Connection and Rivet Connections
- Check the spring connections - arrows A - for damage and the rivet connections - arrows B - for secure fit.
• Pressure plates with severely kinked or broken off spring connections as well as loose rivet connections must be replaced.
Checking Wire Ring
- Check the wire ring in the pressure plate - arrow - for damage. Replace pressure plate with broken wire ring.
