Battery, Preparing for Charging
Procedure
CAUTION!
Risk of explosion on discharged battery with visual indicator.
• If the visual indicator has no color or is light yellow, the battery may not be tested or charged. Jump starting must not be used! There is a risk of explosion during testing, charging or jump starting. The battery must be replaced.
Before the battery charger can be connected, the following preparations are necessary:
• It is recommended that the battery is charged when installed and connected. Only in this way it is guaranteed that the charge current is included in the capacity of the energy management control module (J644).
- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.
Sedan:
- Lift and secure luggage compartment floor mat.
Avant:
- Remove luggage compartment storage area floor - 1 - and cover for spare wheel - 2 -.
Vehicles with Ground (GND) Pin in Luggage Compartment:
- Remove cover - 2 - above battery positive terminal.
- Clamp the red charging clamp positive - 1 - on the battery charger to the battery positive terminal clamp.
- Connect the black charging clamp negative - 3 - on the battery charger to the ground pin - arrow - on the energy management control module.
Vehicles with Ground (GND) Pin in Engine Compartment:
- Open cover - arrow - above battery positive terminal.
- Clamp red battery charger charging clamp positive to positive terminal and black charging clamp negative to battery negative terminal.
All:
- Connect battery charger electrical system connector and switch charger on.
- Keep lid open while charging.
