Drive Axle

Removing

Affect Vehicles with Coil Springs

- Loosen bolt for outer joint of drive axle. Refer to => [ Drive Axle Outer Joint Collar Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] Procedures.

- Remove coil spring. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.

- Remove wheel speed sensor - 3 -.





Affects Vehicles with Air Suspension

- Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.

- Remove wheel trim cap, remove cover cap on light-alloy wheels (removal hook in vehicle tool kit).

- Loosen collar bolt for outer joint of drive axle (only loosen when vehicle is standing on its wheels -danger of accident-). Refer to => [ Drive Axle Outer Joint Collar Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] Procedures.

- Remove air spring. Refer to => [ Air Spring ] Air Spring.

- Remove wheel speed sensor - 3 -.






Affects All Vehicles

- Remove exhaust system rear muffler.

- Remove rear final drive.

- Remove the drive axle toward the inside.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing, Wheel Bearing Unit and Coil Spring Shock Absorber Assembly Overview ] Wheel Bearing Housing, Wheel Bearing Unit and Coil Spring Shock Absorber Assembly Overview.

- Install rear final drive.

- Install coil spring. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.

- Install air spring. Refer to => [ Air Spring ] Air Spring.

- Tighten collar bolt for outer joint of drive axle (only tighten when vehicle is standing on its wheels -danger of accident-). Refer to => [ Drive Axle Outer Joint Collar Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] Procedures.
