Reservoir

Refrigerant Circuit

Reservoir

Depending on vehicle model, reservoir is available in different versions and for different component locations.

On vehicles with 8 cylinder. diesel engine, reservoir - A - can be removed from above without removing bumper.

Removing

- Drain the refrigerant circuit.

- Remove front bumper not for vehicles with 8 cylinder diesel engine.

- Bring lock carrier to service position not for vehicles with 8 cylinder diesel engine.

- Remove the charge air cooler or secondary air injection pump motor if necessary. This is not necessary on all vehicles.

- Remove bolts - A - and disconnect refrigerant lines - B - and - C -.

- Remove bolts - D -.

- Remove reservoir.

Seal open pipe connections.

Attachment of refrigerant pipes differs depending on engine version.

Keep reservoir closed as long as possible; only remove caps immediately prior to installation, reservoir contains a desiccant bag which soon becomes saturated with moisture and thus unusable when reservoir is open.

Removed reservoir contains refrigerant oil which must be restored to refrigerant circuit.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

Before installing reservoir review refrigerant servicing.

Connection at reservoir can be marked with "IN" from evaporator and "OUT" to compressor.

Reservoir removed contains refrigerant oil which must be returned to refrigerant circuit with new reservoir.

Adjustment of oil quantity depends on nature of complaint.

If the reservoir was damaged, during an accident no refrigerant escaped, no moisture or dirt entered refrigerant circuit, A/C system can be serviced without the need for extensive repair work by weighing old and new reservoir. Pour refrigerant oil into new reservoir until it weighs the same as the reservoir removed.

Clean the refrigerant circuit if an unknown amount of refrigerant oil leaks out or dirt or moisture enter the circuit review Refrigerant Servicing.

- Replace O-rings - E -.

Coat O-ring seals lightly with refrigerant oil before installing. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-Ring Seals ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Ring Seals.

- Insert refrigerant lines - B - and - C - in reservoir free of tension. In doing so, pay attention to correct assignment of connections.

- Install bolts - D - and tighten (tightening torque 10 Nm).

- Mount refrigerant line on reservoir using bolt - A - (tightening torque 10 Nm).

- Re-install remaining components removed.

- Evacuate and re-charge refrigerant circuit.

- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit. Refer to => [ Operating A/C System after Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] Operating A/C System after Filling Refrigerant Circuit

Note the information regarding operating the A/C system after filling.
