Knock Sensor: Service and Repair






Knock Sensors

CAUTION!
Fuel system is under high pressure! Before opening the high pressure components of the fuel injection system, the pressure must be relieved to a residual pressure. Refer to => [ High Side Fuel Pressure, Reducing ] Service Precautions.

Then wrap a clean cloth around the connection and relieve the residual pressure by carefully loosening the connection.

Removing

- Remove the intake manifold, refer to one of the following:

With a magnesium intake manifold, refer to => [ Intake Manifold ] Intake Manifold and Injectors, with Magnesium Manifold.

With a plastic intake manifold, refer to => [ Upper Intake Manifold ] Intake Manifold and Injectors, with Plastic Manifold.

- Remove the Knock Sensor (KS) 1 - 2 - or the KS 2 - 9 -.





- Remove the KS 3 - 8 - or the KS 4 - 1 -.





Installing

- Install the respective KS in its installed location.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Ignition Components Overview ] Ignition Components Overview.

Tightening specification affects the function of the KS.

- Install the intake manifold, refer to one of the following:

With a magnesium intake manifold, refer to => [ Intake Manifold ] Intake Manifold and Injectors, with Magnesium Manifold.

With a plastic intake manifold, refer to => [ Upper Intake Manifold ] Intake Manifold and Injectors, with Plastic Manifold.
