Cylinder Head Bolts









Replace bolts
The short bolts are installed on the outside
First pass Hand tight
Second pass 30 Nm
Third pass 50 Nm
Fourth pass 90° (1/4 turn) additional turn
Final pass 90° (1/4 turn) additional turn

Checking Cylinder Head for Distortion





Check cylinder head at multiple points for distortion, using straight edge and feeler gauges.

Permissible distortion Max. 0.05 mm

Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolts
Please refer to Camshafts for bearing cap bolt tightening specifications and sequences. Camshafts

• After installing the camshafts, the engine may not be started for approximately 30 minutes. The hydraulic adjusting elements must seat themselves (otherwise the valves will seat themselves on the pistons).

• After working on the valvetrain and lifters, carefully rotate the crankshaft by hand at least 2 full revolutions before starting to be sure that valves do not strike the pistons.

Intake Manifold Lower Section To Cylinder Heads 9 Nm
Replace fasteners
Fasten diagonally in steps

Intake Manifold Upper Section
Replace fasteners
First pass 7 Nm
Final pass Tighten 180°

Intake Manifold Side to Upper Part 22 Nm
Replace fasteners

Exhaust Manifold to Cylinder Head Nuts 23 Nm
Replace nuts









Camshaft Sprocket Bolts
Replace bolts
First pass 60 Nm
Final pass Tighten 90°
