Assembly Overview






1 Self-Locking Nut

60 Nm

Always replace if removed

2 Shock Absorber Mount

3 Upper Spring Seat

4 Upper Support

5 Protective Sleeve

6 Buffer Stop

7 Shock Absorbers

For the correct allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog

8 Lower Washer

In order to achieve a uniform height, coil springs must be installed with their spacers, refer to the Parts Catalog

9 Lower Support

10 Coil Spring

Surface of spring coil may not be damaged

11 Cap

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench 50-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)

Spring Compressor (VAS 6046)

Spring Support F/VAS 6046 (VAS 6046/3)

Shock Absorber Set (T10001)

Clarification of Production Control numbers (PR No.), refer to => [ PR Number Explanations ] Application and ID.

Shock absorber combination installed in vehicle is indicated by corresponding PR number on vehicle data plate.

- Remove suspension strut. Refer to => [ Coil Spring Suspension Strut ] Coil Spring Suspension Strut.

Coil Spring, Removing






- Install special tools on wheel bearing housing as shown in illustration.

3 (T10001/11)
4 (T10001/3)
5 (VAS 6046)
6 (VAS 6046/3)

- When tensioning, ensure coil springs are seated correctly in (VAS 6046/3) - arrow -.






- Pre-load coil spring until upper spring plate is free.

- Remove nut from piston rod and remove shock absorber mount.

- Remove upper spring plate with protective sleeve and coil spring with spring tensioner.

Coil Spring, Installing






- Insert upper washer - 2 - in upper spring plate - 1 -.

Raised point - arrow A - must align with recess - arrow B - for this.

- Tension coil spring with (VAS 6046) and (VAS 6046/3).

- Make sure that coil spring is seated correctly in (VAS 6046/3) - arrow -.






- Position coil spring with (VAS 6046) on spacer with rubber support.

- Place protective sleeve and upper spring plate on piston rod.






The upper spring plate must be set on the spring so that the markings - Arrow - are located opposite the connecting link attachment - 1 -.

Center lines - A and B - must be parallel to each other.

- End of spring coil must rest against stop of upper washer - arrow 1 -.






- Make sure protective foil is clipped in upper spring plate - arrow 2 -.

- Position shock absorber mount and attach new nut to piston rod.

- Relieve the tension on the (VAS 6046) and remove from the coil spring.
