Suspension (Coil Spring)






Coil Spring Suspension Strut

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Thrust Tube (VW 455)

Carrier Bearing Inst. Tool (3350)

Torque Wrench 50-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)

Spring Tensioner (VAS 6046)

Spring Support (VAS 6046/3)

Shock Absorber Set (T10001)

Disassembling

- Suspension strut (coil spring), removing. Refer to => [ Coil Spring Suspension Strut ] Coil Spring Suspension Strut.

- Remove nuts and remove mounting bracket.

Before disassembling suspension strut (coil spring), mark location from upper spring plate to coil spring - marking 1 - and from lower spacer to shock absorber - marking 2 -.






Without markings, the correct location around the imaginary symmetrical axis will not be achieved! In that case, installation of suspension strut (coil spring) is only possible after disassembling again.

First pre-load spring far enough so that the tension is relieved on upper spring plate!

- Make sure that coil spring is seated correctly in (VAS 6046/3) - arrow -.






- Pre-load coil spring until upper spring plate is free.






- Remove nut from piston rod.

- Remove components of suspension strut and coil spring using (VAS 6046) and (VAS 6046/3).

Assembling






- Place coil spring on (VAS 6046/3) at bottom.

- Make sure that coil spring is seated correctly in (VAS 6046/3) - arrow -.

- Place upper backing plate - 1 - onto coil spring and upper washer - 2 - on upper backing plate.






- End of spring coil - arrow 1 - must rest against upper washer stop.






- Make sure that protective sleeve - arrow 2 - is clipped into upper spring plate.

- Install new nut on piston rod.

- Before releasing coil spring tension, rotate upper spring plate, coil spring and lower spacer in relation to each other so that - marking 1 - and - marking 2 - align.






- Relieve the tension on the (VAS 6046) and remove from the coil spring.
