Rear Final Drive

Rear Final Drive

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

• Counterhold tool (T10172) with adapters (T10172/6)

Removing

- Remove rear section of exhaust system.

- Check whether there is a factory marking (colored marking) on rear driveshaft and at driveshaft flange. If not, identify position of driveshaft CV joint - arrow A - to driveshaft flange at rear final drive - arrow B - with paint.





- Remove rear driveshaft from rear final drive. Refer to => [ Rear Driveshaft ] Rear Driveshaft.





- Use the counterhold tool (T10172) with the adapters (T10172/6) to do this.

- Tie up driveshaft - arrow -.

- Remove right rear - 1 - and left - 2 - driveshafts from rear final drive.





- Tie up driveshafts.

• Make sure driveshaft protective coating is not damaged.

- Position Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A) at rear final drive.

- Remove bolts - arrows - at rear final drive/subframe connection.

- Tip up rear final drive at driveshaft flange - A -.





- Lower rear final drive.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive Assembly Overview ] Rear Final Drive Assembly Overview.

- Attach rear driveshafts to rear final drive flange shafts.

- Attach rear driveshaft to rear final drive => [ Driveshaft, installing ] Rear Driveshaft.

- Check gear oil level in rear final drive. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive Axle Oil Level, Checking ] Rear Final Drive Axle Oil Level, Checking.

- Install rear section of exhaust system.
