Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Airbag adapter (VAS 6280)
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.
Removing
- Turn on the ignition.
- Turn on the ignition and disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
- Create photos or sketches of wire securing and routing.
Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Disconnect connectors. Refer to => [ Connectors, Connecting and Disconnecting ] Connectors, Connecting and Disconnecting.
- Connect Airbag Adapter (VAS 6235) or (VAS 6280). Refer to => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting and Disconnecting ] Airbag Adapter, Connecting and Disconnecting.
- Unclip wiring cable guide at connector station on seat.
- Remove seat rail cover - 4 -. Refer to => [ Seat Rail Cover ] Seat Rail Cover
- Remove screws - 1 - (quantity: 4).
• With fixed individual seat, seat cushion must be removed for rear screws. Refer to => [ Seat Cushion ] Seat Cushion.
- Lift seat - 3 - out of vehicle.
- Create a surface that can be walked on (for example a piece of wood) with dimensions approx. 400 mm x 400 mm.
After removing seat, cover this area with a surface that can be walked on (for example a piece of wood).
If a surface that can be walked on is not used, the air ducts beneath the floor covering can be damaged or destroyed when walking on the floor.
Installation
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- When installing seat, rail offsets must not align with each other (same lock position).
- Clean nut threads before installing new screws.
- Use new screws.
- Pay attention to the assembly sequence and tightening torque. Refer to => [ Assembly Sequence and Tightening Specification: ] 2nd Row, 2-Seater Assembly Overview
Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove Airbag Adapter (VAS 6235) or (VAS 6280) only after installing seat. Refer to => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting and Disconnecting ] Airbag Adapter, Connecting and Disconnecting.
- Connect connector to connector station. Refer to => [ Connectors, Connecting and Disconnecting ] Connectors, Connecting and Disconnecting.
- Ensure that the airbag connector engages correctly.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
• Make sure the wires do not get caught.
- Route and secure wiring according to photos or sketches that were made.
- Clip wiring cable release into connector station.
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.
- Switch on ignition.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
- If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.
