Brake Shoes, Running-In on A Closed Off Street
Burnish the brake shoe only on a non-public or closed street.
When burnishing the brake shoes, the vehicle is braked without the brake lights coming on.
When burnishing the brake shoes, the rear wheels may not be braked over the blocking limit using the parking brake.
The free play on the parking brake lever must be adjusted correctly. Refer to => [ Pedal Parking Brake, Adjusting Free Play ] Pedal Parking Brake, Adjusting Free Play.
The basic setting of the parking brake must be performed. Refer to => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting Basic Setting ] Parking Brake, Adjusting Basic Setting.
Proceed as follows:
• Accelerate to approximately 20 km/h.
• Pull the parking brake lever and hold it so that it does not latch into a detent.
• With the release handle pulled, apply the brakes to the rear wheels using the parking brake lever until the brake shoes audibly touch the brake drum. The rear wheels must not block.
• Drive approximately 100 m.
• Release the parking brake lever.
• Release the handle.
• Now the brake shoes are burnished on the brake drum.
• Free play of foot operated parking brake lever must be checked again. Refer to => [ Pedal Parking Brake, Adjusting Free Play ] Pedal Parking Brake, Adjusting Free Play.
