Component Protection
Most control modules are provided with component protection.
If a control module is replaced, the new control module must be adapted to the vehicle via an online connection. If adaptation is not performed, the component protection of the new control module will be activated.
If component protection is activated, the new control module in the vehicle is only partially operative (e.g. tachometer not working). Component protection is active under the following conditions:
• Installation of a new control module.
• Installation of a control module from a different vehicle
If the component protection is active in the start authorization system, it is also active for all other control modules with component protection.
The immobilizer is not a part of the component protection.
Deactivating component protection is performed with the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing & Information System (VAS5051B).
