Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 37 number 09-11 dated August 26, 2009 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
^ The ignition key cannot be removed from the switch, despite selecting shift position "P".
^ Or if equipped with advanced key system, the vehicle cannot be locked by remote control after exiting.
^ The following DTC code may be logged in the 05-vehicle authorization system: DTC 00230 (Switch for gearbox position P-F305, disruption/short circuit to positive/ground, sporadic).
Technical Background
Gear lever position "P" sporadically is not recognized, causing the ignition key not to be cleared or preventing the locking of the vehicle. In some cases the cable adjustment is not correct; therefore the gear lever position "P" is sporadically not recognized.
Production Solution

Service
Tip: With all complaints in connection with the selector mechanism, the attached checklist must be completed.
Check for other faults that may be logged in control units, such as ABS, vehicle authorization system, engine, gearbox, etc. Address them according to the guided fault finding.
If no other faults are logged, or all other faults are addressed, proceed as follows:
Case A - Chassis No. before 7D072861
1. Read the fault memory. If fault is logged in Access/Start Control System group 05, follow guided fault finding.
2. Carry out the checks described in the attachment (Checklist for Audi Q7 Transmission Selector Mechanism).
^ Record every step in the check list.
3. Repair if necessary.
4. If no fault is found, adjust the selector cable according to the Repair Manual.
5. If the fault reoccurs, replace the micro switch (F305) in the gearshift housing.
6. Attach the completed checklist and VAS printouts to the repair order. Warranty-requested documents received without checklist and VAS printouts will be denied payment.
Case B - Chassis No. greater than 7D072861 but less than Chassis No. 8D014775
1. Read the fault memory. If fault is logged in Access/Start Control System group 05, follow guided fault finding.
2. Carry out the checks described in the attachment (Checklist for Audi Q7 Transmission Selector Mechanism).
^ Record every step in the check list.
3. Repair if necessary.
4. If no damage is found and DTC 00230 (Switch for gearbox position P-F305, disruption/short circuit to positive/ground, sporadic) is stored, replace the micro switch (F305) in the gearshift housing.
5. Attach the completed checklist and VAS printouts to the repair order. Warranty-requested documents received without checklist and VAS printouts will be denied payment.
Case C - From Chassis No. 8D014775
1. Read the fault memory. If fault is logged in Access/Start Control System group 05, follow guided fault finding.
^ Save a copy for TACS attachment.
2. Carry out the checks described in the attachment (Checklist for Audi Q7 Transmission Selector Mechanism).
^ Record every step in the check list.
3. Open a TACS case with GFF test plan attached and the check list results entered in to the contact. Call TACS for further assistance.
