Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 60 number 09-04 dated June 2, 2009 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
The rear sunroof panel reverses during closing operation.
Technical Background
If the rear sunshade stops are deformed or missing, the sunshade arch retracts further than intended when the sunshade is open. The arch is then lodged against the sunroof panel.
When the rear sunroof panel is vented, the sunshade arch retracts further still and rests against the headliner. When the rear sunroof panel is closed, the sunshade arch interferes with normal movement of the sunroof panel.
As a result, when the rear sunroof panel is closed, it encounters resistance from the sunshade arch, the pinch protection intervenes, and the sunroof panel reverses. Closing the rear sunshade will restore rear sunroof panel power operation.
Production Solution
Optimized sunshade stop.
Service
1. Open the rear sunroof panel to check the position of the rear sunshade arch when fully open.
If the sunshade arch rests against the headliner, the sunshade stops are deformed or missing and will need to be replaced.
2. Remove the rear glass roof panel.
3. Remove the old sunshade stops.
4. Clean the area where the sunshade stops are mounted as well as the new sunshade stops with a degreasing agent such as isopropanol.
5. Using the hand cartridge gun VAS 5155, apply a small amount of two part epoxy D 180 KU1 A1 (also available in the D 007 700 plastic repair kit) to the sunshade stop and to the mounting area. This will ensure more permanent retention of the sunshade stop.
