Transfer Case Cover, Servicing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Pressure plate (VW 401)

• Pressure plate (VW 402)

• Punch (VW 412)

• Thrust piece (VW 454)

• Thrust piece (VW 554)

• Seal driver-front wheel bearing (40 - 20)

• Tube (3259)

• Tube for wheel bearing (3345)

• Pressure sleeve (T10299)

Removing large ball bearing (for the output shaft/rear driveshaft output shaft) from cover





- Mount thrust tube (VW 454) the large dia. onto the ball bearing.

- Support the transfer case cover by the press too (3345) directly under the bearing mount.

Install the large ball bearing (for the output shaft/rear driveshaft output shaft) into the cover





- Support transfer case cover using tube (3259) directly under the bearing mount.

Removing small ball bearing (for the flange shaft/front driveshaft) from the cover





- Mount thrust tube (VW 454) the small dia. onto the ball bearing.

- Support the transfer case cover using tube (3259) directly under the bearing mount.

Installing small ball bearing (for the flange shaft/front driveshaft) into the cover





- Support the transfer case cover using the sleeve (VW 554) directly under the bearing mount. The large dia. from the sleeve (VW 554) faces the cover - arrow -.
