Restrictor

Restrictor

Only install a red restrictor on this vehicle. The color may also appear orange depending on the manufacturer.

Replacement restrictors come in different colors (yellow restrictor, diameter of bore/constriction 1.54 mm, red restrictor, diameter of bore/constriction 1.42 mm), so follow the assignment (different refrigerant circuit adjustment).

Removing

- Discharge refrigerant circuit.

- Remove the luggage compartment liner.

- Disconnect refrigerant lines at threaded connection - A -.

Seal open lines and connections on the A/C compressor with suitable caps (to prevent dirt and moisture from entering).

- Remove the restrictor - C - from the refrigerant line with needle nose pliers.

Installing

Tightening specification: 15 Nm.

Installation is done is reverse order, observe the following:

Only install restrictors of same type; restrictors with different colors have different bore diameters.

- Check the O-ring seal - C - (7.5 mm; 1.5 mm) to make sure it is seated correctly in the groove.

- Coat the-ring seal (for the restrictor and at the threaded connection) lightly with refrigerant oil before installing.

- Install the restrictor - C -.

The - arrow - on the restrictor points toward the evaporator.

- Check the restrictor seating.

The restrictor must sit in the refrigerant line without play.

- Replace the O-ring - B -.

- Install refrigerant pipes such that they are not strained.

- Tighten the threaded connection - A -.

- Install the luggage compartment liner.

- Evacuate and fill refrigerant circuit.

After finishing the repairs, perform the following work on the Climatronic Control Module (J255) using the Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051/ in the "Guided Fault Finding" function:

- Check the DTC memory and erase any malfunctions shown.

- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit, refer to => [ Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning.

Note the information regarding operating the A/C system after filling.
