Spark Plugs, Replacing

4.2L

• Observe waste disposal regulations!

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Spark Plug Wrench (3122B)

• Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)

CAUTION!
Place Ignition Coil Puller (T40039) on top rib - arrow - of ignition coil and pull this from spark plug. Placing on bottom rib can cause damage.

Both Cylinder Banks

- Switch ignition off.

- Remove the engine compartment trim. Refer to => [ Engine Compartment Trim, Removing and Installing ] Engine Compartment Trim.

Right Cylinder Bank

- Remove both bolts - 1 -.

- Push connector - 2 - toward ignition coil, press on catch with hand and remove connector.

- Using the Ignition Coil Puller (T40039) remove the ignition coils - 3 - from the spark plugs.

- Remove spark plugs using (3122 B).

- Install new spark plugs.

• Push ignition coils by hand into intended recesses in cylinder head cover.

Left Cylinder Bank

- Remove coolant reservoir - arrow -.

- Tie aside coolant reservoir with coolant hoses 1 to 3 connected.

- Remove both bolts - 1 -.

• Push ignition coils by hand into intended resources in cylinder head cover.

5.2L

• Observe waste disposal regulations!

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Spark Plug Wrench (3122B)

• Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)

- Remove screws - 5 -.

- Move the coolant reservoir slightly forward - arrow - and remove it.

- Tie the coolant reservoir with the coolant hoses - 1, 3 and 4 - and connectors still attached - 2 - to the rear lid.

- Remove the screws - arrows - and remove the coolant reservoir bracket.

- Remove screws - arrows -.

- Release the connectors and at the same time remove them from the ignition coils - 1 through 5 -.

Cylinder Bank 2, Left:

- Remove screws - arrows -.

- Release the connectors and at the same time remove them from the ignition coils - 6 through 10 -.

Both Sides

- Slide the (T40039) onto the ignition coil with power output stage and pull it in - direction of arrow -.

- Remove spark plugs using (3122 B).

- Install new spark plugs.

Installing

- Loosely place all ignition coils in spark plug shaft.

- Align ignition coils to connectors and place all connectors evenly on ignition coils.

- Press ignition coils evenly by hand onto spark plugs (do not use a hammer).

- Install the screws for the ignition coil wire guide to the cylinder head cover.

- Install the engine compartment trim.

Tightening Specifications

• Push ignition coils by hand into intended recesses in cylinder head cover.
