Gear Recognition Sensor
Gear Recognition Sensor
Removing
- Remove the rear bumper cover.
CAUTION!
There is a risk of injury. The pressure in the R tronic hydraulic system may be up to 50 bar.
• Always reduce system pressure first before working on the R tronic hydraulic system. Refer to => [ Hydraulic System, R Tronic, Building System Pressure ] Procedures.
- Body Protectors, Installing. Refer to => [ Body Protectors, Installing ] Body Protectors, Installing.
- Remove the left - 1 - and right - 3 - engine compartment trim.
- Remove engine cover - 2 -.
- Remove the air filter housing.
- Remove the bolts - 1 - and the heat shield - arrow -.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors - 1 - on the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604).
- Remove the bolts - 2 - and the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604) - 2 -.
Installing
• Tightening torque. Refer to => [ Shift Actuator, R Tronic Assembly Overview ] , => [ Heat Shield Over the R tronic Shift Actuator,
Tightening Specifications ] .
• Replace O-ring.
• If the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604) with gold contacts is being replaced by a sensor with gold contacts, then the cable set for the sensor must be replaced with the Adapter Wire Set (420 971 164). Refer to => [ Adapter Wire Sets, Gear Recognition Sensor 2 and Gear Recognition Sensor, Installing ] .
- Lubricate the O-ring - 2 - on the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604) lightly.
- Position the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604) - 1 - in the "9:00 position" on the R tronic shift actuator bolting eyelet - arrow A - as shown in the illustration.
• The actuating pin - 3 - fits into the bracket on the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604).
- When pressing on the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604), make sure the O-ring is not crushed.
- Turn the Gear Recognition Sensor (G604) clockwise - arrow B - so the bolts can be installed.
• When turning, the sensor spring force becomes noticeable.
- Install the bolts.
Further installation in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- Install the air filter housing.
- Install the engine compartment trim.
- Install the rear bumper cover.
- Perform gear selector basic setting. Refer to => [ Gear Selector Basic Setting ] Testing and Inspection.
