Retainer Plate For Interior Mirror, Cementing

Repair method using glass-metal-adhesive

Special tools and workshop equipment required







- Glass-Metal-Adhesive-Set D 000 703 A1

1 - Glass scraper (commercially available)
2 - Razor blade (commercially available)

CAUTION: Use adhesive at room temperature and observe manufacturers safety instructions and directions for use. The material will harden fully after several hours.







- Dimension for interior rear-view mirror a = 153 mm (top edge of trim strip to center of bonding surface of mirror base).

Procedure

- Take mirror plate out of mirror base.
- Use wire brush to remove PUR adhesive from mirror plate.
- Grind off three spacers on bonding surface. Use sandpaper (360/400 grain) on flat surface.
- Keep sanded surface clean and free from dirt and grease.
- Use glass scraper to remove PUR adhesive and primer from windscreen down to ceramic layer.

CAUTION: Do not damage ceramic coating. Scratches will remain permanently visible.

- Clean bonding area with adhesive remover D 002 000 10 or cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
- Cut nylon mesh fabric exactly to the size of the mirror base.

NOTE: Wear hand protection (rubber glove).

- Apply adhesive evenly and smoothly to base of mirror.
- Install nylon mesh fabric onto base of mirror.
- Apply further adhesive to nylon mesh fabric by dabbing with the tube.
- 30 seconds are available for applying the adhesive to the nylon mesh fabric before pressing it onto the windshield.
- Press base of mirror firmly (do not use force) against windshield for 15 seconds.
- Remove excess adhesive with a cloth.

NOTE: Interior rear view mirror can be reinstalled after 15 minutes.
