Cruise Control System With Electronic Power Control
All cruise control system functions are controlled by the applicable Engine Control Module (ECM). The processing of electronic engine controls and cruise control functions are integrated in the ECM. Other than the cruise control switches on the steering column/multifunction steering wheel, the clutch and brake pedal switches and related wiring, there are no separate cruise control components to be serviced.
As all electronic throttle control (EPC) operations are monitored by On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) pertaining to engine electronics that are stored in DTC memory may be relevant to cruise control function. Always check DTC memory first before troubleshooting.
All CCS troubleshooting and OBD program functions are performed using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing info. System VAS 5051B (or other VAS 505X class tester) in operating mode "Guided Fault Finding" or "Vehicle Self Diagnosis"
Cruise Control System, Activating and Deactivating
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- e.g. Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B (or any of the VAS 505X class testers) with diagnostic cable
Procedure
- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B.
NOTE: If an error message appears on the display see VAS 5051B operating instructions.
- Press Guided Functions button on operating mode selection screen.
Display:
- Enter vehicle identification number (VIN) in field - 1 - in selection - A -.
The Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B then switches to the next selection level. The following example shows how vehicle type, engine and vehicle system of function could be selected (some steps may be skipped):
The following information is given as an example only. Always enter required information as it pertains to vehicle being serviced.

NOTE: If it is not possible to activate/deactivate the CCS using "Guided Fault Finding", e.g.: with older Engine Control Module (ECM) generations, CCS function (or lack of CCS function) are hard-programmed into the ECM version. In these cases, ECMs with and without CCS function are identified via different ECM part numbers.
