- Wait until "Select diagnostic function" appears in display field - 1 - on Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) screen.
• Identification of control modules. Refer to => [ Sample Control Module Identification Display Field 2 ] now appears in display group - 2 - of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A).
• If the display "vehicle system not installed" appears in display field - 1 - on screen of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A), check:
• Voltage supply to A/C control head Climatronic Control Module (J255) according to wiring diagram.
• Wire connection from the 16-pin data link connector to the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head.
• If an additional display field - 2 - "Diagnostic Bus interrupted" appears and with notes for a possible malfunction cause on the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) display, check:
• The voltage supply to the 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) according to wiring diagram.
• Voltage and condition of the battery (A). Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "guided fault finding" function
• The display "Diagnostic Bus interrupted" with notes of a possible malfunction cause on Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) screen appears also when an interference occurred during the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) or the data exchange between Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A ) and Climatronic Control Module (J255) has been interrupted.
• The current screen display can be printed out by pressing the " print" function on Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) screen.
• Possible malfunction causes can be displayed by pressing the " help" function on Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) screen.

Sample Control Module Identification Display Field 2
• Starting in April 2002, Climatronic control module ( J255) A/C control heads with part number starting with index " H" (software version"XX15" and higher) will be installed gradually. In these Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control heads, the temperature control for the passenger compartment is designed to be slightly cooler.
• In vehicles as of model year 2003, only Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control heads with a part number from index "H" may be installed.
• In vehicles with a 4-cylinder engine with a gasoline direct fuel injection system (FSI), only Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control heads with a part number from index "H" may be installed.
• In the case of vehicles up to VIN "399999" of model year 2005 (Sedan and Avant) and "012912" of model year 2005 (Cabrio), no Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control heads with a part number from index "AJ" may be installed.
• In the case of vehicles starting with VIN "400000" of model year 2005 (Sedan and Avant) and "012913" of model year 2005 (Cabrio), only Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control heads with a part number from index "AJ" may be installed.
• The Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head automatically switches to the "Econ" operating mode if no basic setting was performed after installation of a new Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head, or the pressure measured by the high pressure sensor (G65) is too low or too high (the compressor may not be switched on). As of hardware/software version "0711", this status is displayed as a fault.
• If the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head automatically switches to the "Off" operating mode after the ignition is activated and only the "Def" operating mode can be set with the ignition on (other settings not possible). Check the assignment of the ignition key. If for example the ignition was switched on with a key that is not activated for this vehicle or the instrument cluster control module (J285) does not send a key number via the comfort data bus system (hardware/software version "0711" and higher), the function of the Climatronic control module ( J255) A/C control head is limited to these operating modes.
• As of hardware/software version "0711", the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head saves the VIN transmitted via the comfort data bus system. If an already installed Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head is installed in another vehicle, the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head detects this and saves the fault " incorrect VIN in control module". If this fault is displayed, the old VIN must be deleted via the "adaptation" function. Refer to => [ Adaptation of A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module ] Adaptation of A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module.
• For the Audi Cabrio, different settings are stored for a closed or open convertible top in the Climatronic control module ( J255) A/C control head. When opening or closing the convertible top, the setting is automatically changed by the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head to the value that was last set when the convertible top was closed or open.
