Connecting Rod, Measuring Radial Clearance
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Plastigage
Procedure
- Remove connecting rod bearing caps.
- Clean bearing caps and journals
- Place Plastigage over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing shells.
- Install the connecting rod bearing cap and tighten nut to 40 Nm without any additional turns. Do not turn crankshaft.
- Remove connecting rod bearing caps again.
- Compare width of Plastigage with measuring scale.
Radial clearance:
• New: 0.020 to 0.069 mm.
• Wear limit: 0.120 mm.
- Replace bolts for connecting rod bearings.
