Fresh Air Blower Speed Decrease, Adapting In Channel 08

Fresh Air Blower Speed Decrease, Adapting in Channel 08

To improve speech recognition and understandability of speech input for telephone, the fresh air blower speed is decreased in vehicles starting with model year 2002 (with the Climatronic control module ( J255) A/C control head starting with hardware/software version " 0711").

The decrease is put into effect as soon as the information " telephone speech input" is transmitted via the comfort data bus system.

The decrease time is limited to a maximum of 2 minutes.

The amount by which the fresh air blower speed is lowered depends on the vent direction and the fresh air blower speed at the time of receipt of the signal "telephone speech input". The higher the air amount directed to the instrument panel vents, the greater the decrease.

The decrease in the fresh air blower speed is effective starting at approx. 40% air distribution to the instrument panel vents. Maximum decrease occurs when 100% of the air is directed to the instrument panel vents.

In the basic setting, the fresh air blower speed with 100% air to the instrument panel vents is limited to 15% (or 25%) of the maximum fresh air blower speed depending on the version of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. This limit can be increased or removed via the "Adaptation" function in adaptation channel " 8".

So that the customer does not need to visit the workshop several times, it is useful after a change in the adaptation to discuss the "speech input" function at the desired decrease in the fresh air blower speed and 100% of the air from the instrument panel vents with the customer at the time of vehicle transfer and to test this as necessary.

Performing Adaptation

- Query the DTC memory of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Interrogating ] DTC Memory, Interrogating and erase any displayed faults.

- Check the coding of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head with respect to vehicle-related optional equipment and correct as needed. Refer to => [ A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding ] A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding.

Indication on the display of the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

- Select the "10 - adaptation" function.

Indication on the display of the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - indicates the request to input a channel number.

Display field - 2 - shows an input keyboard.

- Enter "8" for channel "08 " via the input keyboard in display field - 2 - and confirm by pressing the Q button.

If "function unknown or cannot be carried out at the moment" is displayed in display field - 1 -, the following may be the cause:

Control module adaptation neither as specified nor complete

Fault in comfort data bus system.

Indication on the display of the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - shows "read and test channel 8".

"25%", for example, appears in region - 2 -.

A scroll bar with an identification number for the currently valid maximum fresh air blower speed (e.g. "6800" for 25%) appears in region - 3 -.

- The scroll bar can be used to change the fresh air blower speed during telephone operation in a range between 15% and 88%.

If an identification number that corresponds to a maximum fresh air blower speed of less than 15% or greater than 88% is entered via the scroll bar, the identification number is displayed but not implemented.

If for example an identification number greater than approx. " 32600" is entered via the keyboard, the display automatically jumps back to 15% or 25%.

Area - 2 - displays the newly set value for the maximum fresh air blower speed during telephone operation.

Manufacturer's basic setting: 15% or 25% (identification number currently " 6800" for 25% )

Maximum adjustable fresh air blower speed during speech recognition: 15%-88% (identification number currently "3840" to "22528 ")

Entry can also be made by way of keypad.

- Touch button - 4 - (input via keyboard)

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - indicates display "Enter adaptation value: 0....XXXXX".

Display field - 2 - shows input keyboard.

- Use the keyboard to enter the value for the desired maximum fresh air blower speed in the display field for the "telephone speech input " function for the new adaptation of the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head.

Manufacturer's basic setting: 15% or 25% (identification number currently " 6800" for 25% )

Maximum adjustable fresh air blower speed during telephone operation: 15%-88% (identification number currently "3840" to "22528 ")

At a setting of 88%, the fresh air blower speed is no longer decreased. In this setting, speech recognition and the intelligibility of telephone speech recognition can be affected at maximum fresh air blower speed and air flow to the instrument panel vents.

If an identification number that corresponds to a maximum fresh air blower speed of less than 15% or greater than 88% is entered via the keyboard, the identification number is displayed but not implemented.

If for example an identification number greater than approx. " 32600" is entered via the keyboard, the display automatically jumps back to 15% or 25%.

The decrease in the fresh air blower speed is effective starting at approx. 40% air distribution to the instrument panel vents. Maximum decrease occurs when 100% of the air is directed to the instrument panel vents.

Area - 2 - displays entered identification number.

- Press the Q button to confirm input.

Indication on the display of the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Area - 2 - displays the new value for the fresh air blower speed during telephone operation.

Area - 3 - displays entered characteristic number above scroll bar.

- Save input by touching button - 5 -.

Indication on display of Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A):

Display field - 1 - indicates "save channel 8 ".

Area - 2 - displays the new value for the fresh air blower speed during telephone operation.

Area - 3 - displays the original and new identification number for the maximum fresh air blower speed during telephone operation.

- Accept and save input by touching button - 4 -.

Display field - 1 - indicates "save channel 8, value 0-XXXX saved".

If an identification number that corresponds to a maximum fresh air blower speed of less than 15% or greater than 88% is entered, the identification number is displayed but not implemented.

If for example an identification number greater than approx. " 32600" is entered, the identification number is not taken into consideration by the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head and 15% or 25 % is saved.

By clicking the <- button, you will return to the selection menu.

Check speech recognition with the newly entered decrease in the fresh air blower speed.

- End on board diagnostic (OBD). Refer to => [ Ending Output ] Erasing DTC Memory, Ending Output and switch ignition off.

Check speech input and speech recognition of the telephone as follows:

- Start engine.

- On the Climatronic control module (J255) A/C control head select the "maximum fresh air blower speed" and " air distribution to the instrument panel vents" function or the " defrost" function.

- Open all dash panel vents.

- Check the speech input and telephone speech recognition function in this setting.
