Backrest Cover and Padding, Super Sport Seat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drill for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

Eye protection for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

12 mm drill for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Super Sport Front Seat ] Super Sport Front Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Front Seat, Installing on the ] Front Seat, Installing on the Fixture For Seat Repair (VAS 6136).

Vehicles Equipped with a Mount for a DVD Player:






DVD player removed.

- Unclip the trim - 2 - for the connector - arrow -.

Eye injury risk.

Wear protective eyewear!

- Drill out the guides - 1 - and - 3 - for the DVD player using a 12 mm drill.








Danger of destroying the backrest cover and cushion.

The guides are held in the backrest frame by the retaining tabs - arrows -.

When removing, drill out depth only up to dimension - a - = 35 mm.

All Vehicles:

- Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.

- Remove front backrest. Refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

- Remove the entry assistance trim. Refer to => [ Entry Assistance Trim ] Entry Assistance Trim.

- Disengage the lower retaining channels - 5 - and - 6 -.






- Disengage the upper retaining channel - 3 -.

- Disengage the side retaining strips - 3 - at the backrest frame trim catches - 2 -.






Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Pull the cover as far forward as possible in the side airbag area in order to be able to remove side airbag.

- Remove side airbag. Refer to => [ Side Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200) ] Side Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200)

- Remove the airbag from the pocket sewn into the cover and engage the airbag in the backrest frame.

- Reach from the rear side of the backrest under the upholstery and find the release button - 5 -.






- Press the release button in the direction of the - arrow -.

- Hold release button - 5 - down in this position.

- Remove the upholstery with the headrest - 1 - upward from the backrest frame - 3 -.

A second technician is needed to remove the upholstery with the headrest from the backrest frame.

Equipment Versions with Lumbar Support:






- Separate the upholstery from the Velcro� fastener - 3 - on the lumbar support - 2 - otherwise the lumbar support will be damaged when removing the hooks - arrows -.

All Vehicles:

- Remove cover with upholstery from backrest frame.

Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Make sure the headrest is engaged correctly in headrest guides after positioning upholstery on backrest.

- Make sure the retaining channels - 3 -, - 5 - and - 6 - and the side retaining strips engage correctly and the cover is not wrinkled.






The three center retaining channels - 6 - must be hooked over the backrest frame trim - 4 - and the backrest frame - 2 -.

Vehicles Equipped with a Mount for a DVD Player:






The guide mounts - 1 - and - 3 - on the backrest must free of contaminants.

- Align the backrest cover and install the guides into the mounts.

The guides - 1 - and - 3 - can be installed in only one position.

The release buttons must face outside.

- Install the trim - 2 -.

The trim can be installed in only one position.

Ignore the - arrow - in this reference.

All Vehicles:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
