Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 24 number 11 - 69 dated May 9, 2011 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition
^ MIL/EPC warning lights on.

^ The fault entries P0101, P0113, P1653, P2177 and P2179 are logged in various combinations. The entries refer to Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor G70 and lean fuel mixture condition.

Technical Background

^ Slanted ribs of air filter element may affect the air flow to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor G70.

^ Air leak on connection of intake air hose from the Throttle Valve J338 or Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor G70.

^ Crankcase ventilation hose connection on intake air hose may be leaking or broken.

Production Solution

Improved air filter element alignment from VIN 8T_8A024500.

New software in Engine Control Module (J623) is applicable to 2008 MY vehicles only.

Service

^ Check the lambda adaptation in MVB 32 of ECM (J623). Values of +/-5% are the normal range, if the part load values are over 15%, proceed with the following checks.

1. Check the ribs of the air filter element for slanting (Figure 1).

2. Replace air filter, if necessary. Improved air filters were produced after CW 26/07.

3. Check the air hose connection on the throttle valve for proper alignment of the mounting tab. Figure 3 depicts the correct alignment.

4. If the air hose mounting tab is improperly aligned with the throttle valve and over the stop (Figure 4), bypass air may be induced.

In this case, the air hose sealing surface may be damaged and the intake air hose must be replaced.

Note:
If the crankcase ventilation hose connector clip is damaged/broken when replacing the intake air hose, the crankcase ventilation hose must be replaced.

Tip: Replacement of the crankcase hose requires removal of the intake manifold for installation.

5. Check whether the hose connection for the crankcase ventilation is leaking or broken (Figure 6).

6. If the hose connection is leaking or broken, replace the intake hose.

7. Check intake air hose connection at Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor G70 for proper alignment.

8. Update the ECM software of the affected vehicles using the SVM action codes listed in the table above for 2008 MY vehicles only.

SVM Update Instructions

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update the ECM using the SVM action code listed in the table if necessary.
