Rear Divided Backrest Cover and Upholstery

1/3 Backrest Cover and Upholstery

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Upholstery clip pliers (V.A.G 1634)





1 Bolt

2 Latch Trim

3 Headrest Guides

Quantity: 2

Install headrest guide with button at left

4 Cover

Removing

- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat.

- Remove 1/3 backrest. Refer to => [ Left 1/3 Backrest ] Left 1/3 Backrest.

- To remove the headrest - 7 -: press the button on the left headrest guide - 3 - and remove the headrest.

- Remove the bolt - 9 - on the latch trim - 2 -.

- Press lock lever - 8 - in direction of arrow.

- Remove bolt - 1 - beneath lock lever - 8 -.

- Lift latch trim - 2 - off.

- Remove peripheral fastening strip - 5 - with a screwdriver from behind.

- Install cover and upholstery.

- Squeeze headrest guides - 3 - (quantity: 2) together on bottom end and lift off.

- Remove cover and upholstery from backrest shell.

- Install cover - 4 -.

- Cut the upholstery clips - 6 -.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:

- When installing new upholstery clips, use (V.A.G 1634/).

Rear outer headrests are not the same as front headrests. If you remove all headrests, mark them with adhesive tape.

Rear outer headrests are not the same as front headrests. If you remove all headrests, mark them with adhesive tape.

Install headrest guide with button at left

Removing

- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat.

- Remove 2/3 right backrest. Refer to => [ Right 2/3 Backrest ] Right 2/3 Backrest.

- Remove center armrest. Refer to => [ Divided Rear Seat Backrest Center Armrest ] Divided Rear Seat Backrest Center Armrest.

- Remove inside hinge trim. Refer to => [ Inner Hinge Trim ] Inner Hinge Trim

- Vehicles with a ski sack - 11 -: remove the ski sack. Refer to => [ Ski Bag, Folding Backrest ] Ski Bag, Folding Backrest.

- To remove the headrest - 3 - (quantity: 2): press the button on the left headrest guide - 4 - and remove the headrest.

- Remove the bolt - 15 - on the latch trim - 2 -.

- Press latch lever - 16 - in direction of arrow and remove screw - 1 -.

- Lift latch trim - 2 - off.

- Remove peripheral fastening strip - 11 - with a screwdriver from behind.

- Install cover and upper upholstery.

- Remove fastening strips - 6 - from support - 8 - with a screwdriver.

- Squeeze guide trim for three-point seat belt - 10 - together at bottom and lift it out.

- Squeeze headrest guides - 4 - (quantity: 4) together on bottom end and lift off.

- Remove cover and upholstery from backrest shell - 7 -.

- Install cover - 9 -.

- Remove fastening strips - 14 - from plastic clips - 13 - with a screwdriver.

- Cut upholstery clips - 12 -.

- Remove cover - 9 -.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:

- When installing new upholstery clips, use (V.A.G 1634).

Replace damaged plastic clips

14 Retaining Strip

Backrest, Checking after Assembling

Seat belt relay and belt webbing must not make contact with or rub against foam parts or seat cover fabric.

Anti-twist stop must follow all movements of belt webbing.

Belt webbing must move freely in all directions.

Lock Lever and Lock Cylinder





1 Lock Lever

Removing

- Push latch lever - 1 - in direction of arrow and remove screws - 2 - (quantity: 2).

- Lift latch trim - 3 - off.

- Use a screwdriver to disengage locking hooks (quantity: 2) of latch lever on inside of latch trim.

- Remove lock lever on outer side.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

2 Screws

3 Latch Trim

4 Release Pin

When backrest is locked, pin projects 1-2 mm over latch trim.

When backrest is unlocked, pin projects about 20 mm over latch trim and a red marking is visible.

5 Lock Cylinder

To remove and install the lock cylinder, you must insert the ignition key.

Removing

- Insert ignition key and remove lock cylinder - 5 -.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
