Heated Oxygen Sensors before Catalytic Converter
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Ring spanner 7-piece set for oxygen sensor (3337)
Removing
- Loosen quick-release fasteners - 2 - and remove rear noise insulation.
- Remove electrical harness connectors from bracket and disconnect it:
2 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (G39) (in front of catalytic converter) black connection
3 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 3 (G285) (in front of catalytic converter) brown connector
- Remove affected oxygen sensor using tool from Ring spanner 7-piece set for oxygen sensor (3337).

Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
• New oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste; the paste must not get into slots of oxygen sensor body.
• For a used oxygen sensor, only coat threads with hot bolt paste. This paste must not come into contact with sensor slots. Hot bolt paste.
• Electrical wire of oxygen sensor must always be secured in the same position when installing so that contact with the exhaust pipe is avoided.
