Final Drive Cover O-Ring






Final Drive Cover O-Ring

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Removing

- Place (V.A.G 1782) beneath transmission.

- Remove the right flange shaft. Refer to => [ Right Flange Shaft ] Right Flange Shaft.

- Remove the final drive cover bolts in the sequence opposite the tightening sequence illustrated and remove the cover together with the tapered roller bearing outer race and shim.





The shim must be the correct size and must not be replaced by a shim with a different thickness.

Installing

- Replace the O-ring - arrow -.





- Insert the differential into the transmission housing.

If the outer race for taper roller bearing and the shim have fallen out of cover for final drive:

- Lubricate the shim and tapered roller bearing outer race with gear oil and insert them into the front final drive cover as far as the stop.

- Install the final drive cover.





Tightening sequence:

- Tighten the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - to 3 Nm.

- Tighten bolts - 1 through 11 - in sequence shown to the tightening specification.

- Install the right flange shaft. Refer to => [ Right Flange Shaft ] Right Flange Shaft.

- Fill and check the oil level in the front final drive. Refer to => [ Separate or Combined Oil Systems, Differentiation ] Separate or Combined Oil Systems, Differentiation.

Tightening Specifications
