Charge Air Cooler
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine Bung Set (VAS 6122)
Removing
- Remove the radiator. Refer to => [ Radiator ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation.
Refrigerant can cause serious personal injury.
• Do not open the air conditioning refrigerant circuit.
Risk of damaging refrigerant lines and hoses.
• Do not stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses.
- Remove the air guide hose from the charge air cooler by loosening the hose clamp - arrow -.
- Remove the air guide hose by loosening hose clamps - 1 and 2 -.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - by releasing the air ducts at the left and right and tilting them toward the headlamp.
- Tilt the upper edge of the charge air cooler back slightly.
- Disengage the charge air cooler from the lower mounting points by lifting it.
- Slide the charge air cooler toward the engine and support it from below so it does not sink.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the charge air cooler upward.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following:
• If there are small impressions on the fins. Refer to => [ Coolers, Condensers and Charge Air Coolers ] Coolers, Condensers and Charge Air Coolers.
• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Charge Air Cooler Overview ] Charge Air Cooler Overview.
• Hose connections and charge air system hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• To mount the charge hoses on their connectors securely, spray the bolts on the used clamps with rust remover before installing.
- Install the radiator. Refer to => [ Radiator ] Service and Repair.
- Install the front bumper. Refer to Removal and Installation.
- Air guides, installing with connector. Refer to => [ Air Guide Pipes and Hoses with Connector Coupling ] Service and Repair.
- Check the coolant level. Refer to => [ Check the coolant level. ] Service and Repair.
