Affected Vehicles

01 MIL on (DTCs for secondary air system)





Condition

- Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on.

- One or more of the following DTCs are stored:

- DTC P1424 (Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1, Leak Detected Sporadic )

- DTC P1414 (Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2, Leak Detected Sporadic )

- DTC P0491 (Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1, Low Flow)

- DTC P0492 (Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2, Low Flow)

Technical Background





The check-valve ball inside the air filter housing (Figure 1, 2) of the secondary air injection pump -V101- (Figure 1, 1) may sporadically interrupt the secondary air flow when operating and driven on poor roads and store DTCs

Production Solution

Check valve ball removed during vehicle production designated by a green dot on the filter housing.

Service

Remove ball from check valve inside the air filter housing (Figure 1, 2) of the secondary air injection pump -V101- (Figure 1, 1) as follows:

1. Locate secondary air injection pump -V101-. See Repair Manual Group 26 >> Secondary air injection (AIR) system >> assembly overview.

2. Remove air filter housing (Figure 1, 2) from secondary air injection pump -V101- (Figure 1, 1) by opening the quick connector (Figure 1, 4).





3. Remove the filter retainer (Figure 2, 5) from the air filter housing using a small screw driver.

4. Take out the filter material from air filter housing.

5. Remove Check Valve Ball (Figure 2, 6) from air filter housing. Discard the check valve ball.

If the check ball valve is found not to be in the filter housing, procede with further analysis.

6. Reinsert the filter material and reinstall the filter retainer. Match the retainer tap to the appropriate gap in the housing (Figure 2). The filter retainer needs to snap-in into the filter housing.

7. Reinstall air filter housing (Figure 1, 2) onto secondary air injection pump -V101- (Figure 1, 1).

8. Erase DTC(s) and set readiness code as necessary.
