Hood: Service and Repair






Hood


Make sure the hood catch and latch work correctly after installing the hood.

The hood must lock completely in the hood latch when it is closed.






1 - Hood

Before removing, disconnect electrical harness connectors.

To remove, disengage gas-filled strut - 9 - from hood.

Remove hex bolts from hood hinge on hood-side and remove hood.

2 - Buffer

Both outer buffers can be used to adjust height of hood.

Screw in both inner buffers to stop, then unscrew one half rotation.

3 - Hood Lock Cable

Removal, refer to => [ Hood Lock Operating Cable ] Service and Repair.

4 - Hood Hinge

Before removing, remove hood.

To remove, remove hex bolt - 6 - and remove hood hinge.

5 - Combination Bolt

21 Nm

6 - Rear Lid Latch

7 - Lock Carrier

8 - Catch

9 - Gas Strut

To remove, lightly lift securing spring - 4 - using a screwdriver and pull gas-filled strut from ball head pin.

Hood Lock, Removing





- Disconnect connector and remove bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Remove hood lock - 2 - from lock carrier - 1 -.

- Disengage cable from lock.

Removing the Hook





- To remove, remove cap nuts - 3 - and pull the catch - 2 - off from hood - 1 -.

- When installing, tighten cap nuts to 11 Nm.

Removing Hood Hinge.





- Hood - 1 - must be removed or propped up securely.

- To remove hinge - 2 -, remove hex nuts - 3 - and bolts - 4 -.

Gas-Filled Strut, Removing and Installing






1 Gas Strut

Support hood or secure it from falling down.

- Lightly lift securing springs - 2 - of gas-filled strut - arrow - at both ends of gas-filled strut using a screwdriver and pull gas-filled strut off from ball head pins.

- To install gas-filled strut, only press onto ball head pins - 3 - and let it engage.

- Tube of gas-filled strut must be installed on body side.

2 Securing Springs

To pull off, lift gas-filled strut only slightly using a screwdriver.

3 Ball Head Pin

When installing, tighten to 14 Nm

4 Hood

Secure from falling down when removing gas-filled strut.

Gas-Filled Strut, Releasing Gas





- Clamp gas-filled strut in a vise in area - x = 50 mm - (2 in.).


Clamping the gas-filled strut must only be done in this area - x = 50 mm -, otherwise there is a risk of an accident.

- Saw into the cylindrical part of strut in the first third of the total cylinder length, determined starting from the edge of the cover on the side with the piston rod.

Always wear eye protection when sawing.

Cover the area of the separated portion with a clean rag.

Hood Height Adjustment

Hood adjustment must be performed as described in the following to prevent wind noise.

Adjust hood to a distance of - a = 1.5 mm - to decorative frame to prevent wind noise.

Buffer Stop for Height Adjustment





- Stop buffers - 1 -; - 2 - and - 3 - must make contact lightly against lock carrier when hood is closed.

The stop buffers can also be used for height adjustment.
