Condition

With the hood open, a line or mark is observed in the headlight lens, mainly at the curved portion of the lens, beginning at the top of the black housing and extending a short distance.

This line or mark cannot be seen if the hood is fully closed.

Technical Background
Manufacturing process and tools used to create the headlight lens.

Production Solution
No change.

Service

No repairs are necessary. Please explain to the customer using the following points:

^ When the hood is closed, the line or mark cannot be seen.

^ The headlight beam is not affected, as the line or mark is not on the light emission surface of the lens.

^ The line or mark comes from the slide separator of the molding tool on the transparent part of the lens. The slide is needed for the rear cuts of the lens.

On all other models, these slide separators are visible on the transparent portion of the 2K lens, on the sealing edge. The separators could not be located on the sealing edge of the A3 from model year 2009 because of the different lens design.

The location of the slide on the A3 creates a small mark on the lens, which is a normal condition.
