Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair






Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62)

Removing






Engine cold.

- Remove the cover for the air guide; to do this disengage the side clips- arrows -.

- Unclip the lower air guide, to do this disengage the clips - arrows -.






- Remove both the lower air guide and the air guide hose.

- Remove the air guide hose - 2 and 3 -.






Ignore - 1, 2 and arrows -.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the throttle valve control module (J338).






- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove throttle valve control module.

- Remove the intake manifold support; to do this, remove the nut - 2 - and bolt - 1 -.






Different Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensors may be installed, depending on the version.

Inserted Version






- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the ECT sensor.

Use a cloth to catch any leaking coolant.

- Press the locking mechanisms - arrows - and remove the clamp.

- Remove the ECT sensor - 2 -.

Threaded Version






- Disconnect the connector - 2 - from the ECT sensor.

Use a cloth to catch any leaking coolant.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the retaining plate - 1 -.

- Remove the ECT sensor.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Replace the O-ring.

To prevent coolant loss, immediately insert new ECT sensor in connecting pieces.

- Install the intake manifold support.

- Install the throttle valve control module.

- Check the coolant level => [ Filling ] Service and Repair.
